My Bowen journey

It was around 2011,  I accidentally became a speaker and representative of Bowen Therapy in the Spanish-speaking world, commencing in Argentina.

Bowen in Buenos Aires

Due to my love of cultural immersion together with a lifelong passion for health and healing, I found myself practising and ultimately pioneering Bowen Therapy in Buenos Aires. Early on I was approached by a curious journalist, which quickly resulted in being featured in a well-known Argentine glossy wellness magazine during my Latin American chapter. This inspired in me a much greater responsibility to represent Bowen Therapy seriously, professionally and intelligently – placing it in its deserved place in manual medicine alongside other respected hands-on techniques.

Unbeknownst to me, this event was to be the catalyst that formed the professional trajectory of which I continue on today in 2025.

Who would have thought that the initial desire to learn Spanish and master tango would later introduce me to many esteemed practitioners and teachers in manual therapy!

Auspicious beginnings

Naturally, I first gave a Bowen treatment to the editor for a truly authentic story! Here is the aforementioned magazine 2-page spread article I was featured in, written originally in Spanish. Needless to say, it caused an overflow of enquiries in my inbox!

❝ If you want to master something, teach it. The more you teach, the better you learn. Teaching is a powerful tool to learning. ❞

– Richard Freyman, American physicist

From then on, the momentum has ebbed and flowed on my Bowen journey, where I presented and taught Bowen at conferences and congresses.

I presented Bowen Therapy at two fascia congresses in Buenos Aires in 2013 and 2014. Both events of which were truly honourable and humbling to be a part of.

It was here I met and befriended esteemed clinicians, researchers, professors and practitioners such as Dr Oleari (Head of Biomechanics at the University of Buenos Aires, Dr Schleip (Fascia researcher and scientist), Bibiana Badenes (physiotherapist and movement specialist) and Harry Bachmann (neurorehabilitation and physiotherapy) to name a few.

From Argentina to Brazil

Bowen makes it Rio de Janeiro and Curitiba

I also lived in Brazil for a period of time, where I met and learned with Dr Altomare about adhesions and fibrosis, and delved into the intricate world of mechanobiology. The seeds that were planted in Brazil led to an invitation to teach a 2-day Bowen Therapy course in the south of Brazil in Curitiba, hosted by Faculdade Inspirar. This was for physiotherapists and other manual therapists.

Of course, I accepted!

Portuguese subtitles for the Biology of Bowen
Living in Brazil also gifted me with the Portuguese language! Consequently contributing to the addition of Portuguese subtitles to the Biology of Bowen 6-module course, and other resources you'll find on this site.

Spain invitation

Bodyworkers and movement practitioners in Valencia

Bowen eventually took me to Spain! I was invited to present Bowen Therapy, though this time in a different context. It was for the BodyWisdom Congress led by Bibiana Badenes, a well-known international physiotherapist. A wonderful event which attracted a variety of speakers and an enthusiastic and talented audience of bodyworkers from around the world. Needless to say, all events, connections and experiences have led me directly or indirectly to creating the Biology of Bowen courses.

Wanting to further immerse myself in the Spanish culture, I ended up returning to Spain and lived in Barcelona 2018-2019. It was during this time that I was, once again, interviewed about Bowen Therapy – this time by a very well-known Spanish publication: "El País"!

Answers unfold eventually

I started as a Bowen practitioner in 2005 (I was already a Remedial Massage Therapist) and as ingenious a method as Bowen is – I gathered many questions over the years wondering about the mechanisms of Bowen, and why such a minimalist and subtle method works.

I wondered often: How do these gentle manoeuvres soften the most rigid, fibrotic tissues? How can a series of small stretches do that? And perhaps, even better than prolonged manipulation which is popular in other modalities?

Whilst building new professional relationships – mostly outside of Australia – and exposed to the world of manual medicine at a whole new level with highly regarded professionals (it rubs off!), Bowen Therapy started to make a lot more science-sense. So much so, that I developed a renewed enthusiasm, growing confidence and an even greater appreciation for this subtle hands-on curative technique.

Forever a student, always a practitioner, and ever-evolving teacher.

I continue to utilise the Bowen method I learnt in Australia – now, upgraded, up-skilled and combined with my own continued education via the integration of some of the work of John Garfield, Ron Phelan & Graham Pennington and many other influences and trainings. I consider myself an eternal student, always hungry for more understanding – though without compromising the energetic, the spiritual nature of healing. This is the undercurrent of all healing, for we are energy-light beings! My work and courses are indeed more science-based though do not imply or suggest at all the absence of spirituality and the psycho-emotional and energetic aspect of healing and the body.

What is exciting and promising is the merging of science and spirituality; of cells and quanta, of fluids and ether, of the mind-body-soul unit –– a collective acknowledgement to understand whys and howsand in the application of hands-on healing.

A science-approach with a soulful knowing.

With the Biology of Bowen – I am passionate about teaching and sharing the science-based aspect of the body intersecting with understanding the mechanisms of Bowen Therapy. I provide a deeper clinical understanding to empower and educate so that you become a knowledgeable soft tissue clinician the Bowen technique; so that you may better understand Bowen and the body, whilst you intuit, feel, empathise, intend, and create the ideal environment for self-healing.

Understanding the Nuances of Bowen

Knowledge is empowering...when its applied. ~ Anonymous

Knowledge that is empowering and deepens understanding in your Bowen work is what inspires me to continue developing valuable content and courses.

Presently, I'm excited to continue to unpack the subtleties, the mechanisms and meaning behind Bowen with a science approach. All of which has manifested into what you'll find on this online school!

Recently I had the pleaure to present twice a live webinar "Nuances of Bowen–Why Do We Do That in Bowen?" It was so well received, that efforts are under way to make this an on-demand ongoing webinar in a few languages! Stay tuned.

In the meantime, be sure to browse this site and take advantage of all I have to offer–there's a lot that's free too!
